New opening: AHA Restaurant & Bar, Central

The latest dining spot to open up under ZS Hospitality Group is AHA Restaurant & Bar.

It features a playful interior: the bar is inspired by a pipe organ, while the handcrafted beehive-shaped pendant lamps hang from the ceilings, and art pieces can be spotted across the restaurant and bar space.

The menu highlights comfort food meant for sharing, including its lump crab cake, Mediterranean seafood stew and roasted whole French chicken.

New opening: BASAO tea bar, Wan Chai

Tea lovers, rejoice. A tea bar has opened its doors in Wan Chai’s bustling Star Street which aims to serve fine teas sourced from partner growers in China, Taiwan, Nepal, India and Japan.

BASAO, a Hong Kong brand first launched in 2015 with an online store, embarks on its first offline store serving a wide range of teas, including different types of Darjeeling, oolong, green tea and even cold brew teas.

New opening: Draft Land, Central

Cocktails on tap is now a thing and it is coming to Hong Kong this month.

Draft Land, the pioneering bar behind this new concept, has teamed up with Hong Kong’s own Antonio Lai to open its first overseas venue in Central.

Ready-made cocktails described by the bar as “pre-batch-only and garnish-free” will be available on tap, which can be complemented with bar snacks.

‘A Feast for the Future’ at Amber, Central

Amber is set to close its doors in early December for renovations, before reopening in the spring.

The restaurant is temporarily bidding adieu with a decadent 14-course dinner dubbed ‘A Feast for the Future’ that will showcase 14 signature dishes created over Amber’s 14 years in operation.

Highlights of the dinner include 2005’s duck foie gras chupa chup with beetroot and raspberry topped with crispy gingerbread and sea salt and 2010s albino 85 per cent chocolate souffle with cacao sorbet.

Guests dining on December 9 (and later in May) are in for an extra treat – an eight-course pre-launch menu with a commemorative cocktail from PDT bar.

Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau 2019 Gala Dinner, Macau

It is set to be a starry night on December 11.

Six chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants from around the world will be gathering at the City of Dreams in Macau for a one-night-only gala dinner.

The chefs, who all hail from two or three Michelin-starred restaurants, include Alain Ducasse, Masa Takyama and Pierre Hermé.

The theme for this year’s dinner is “metamorphosis” and will explore the chefs’ evolution during their career.

Highlights include steamed sea bass fillet in fermented bean sauce by Chan Yan-tak of three-Michelin starred Lung King Heen in Hong Kong, and grilled beef rib steak with black garlic and matsutake from David Kinch of three Michelin-starred Manresa in California.

Sevva x Chase Kojima x Cloudy Bay, Central

Sevva welcomes guest chef Chase Kojima from Sokyo at The Star in Sydney this month for a tasting menu paired with wines from Cloudy Bay.

The five-course menu draws inspiration from Kojima’s strong connection with the sea, with seafood dominating the menu.

Highlights include king fish miso ceviche, king crab tempura and Wagyu tenderloin with smoked eel jus and tuna crispy rice.

Carefully selected wines from Cloud Bay, as well as champagne from Ruinard Blanc de Blancs, help complement the meal.

Bombana white truffle dinner at 8½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana, Macau

White truffle is on the menu over at 8½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana in Macau.

The restaurant will bring together Umberto Bombana and Riccardo La Perna from its Shanghai location and Antimo Merone from its Macau location for a six-hands dinner where the focus will be solely on luxurious white truffle from Alba in Italy.

Not-to-be missed items include ricotta gnocchi, as well as wild turbot cooked in a sea salt crust.
